Audrey Hepburn once said " The most important thing is to enjoy your life - to be happy- it's all that matters." So what is happiness? How can we be happy? The film "Happy" by Roko Belic, shows that everyone in their life wants to be happy no matter in what situation. Research claims that "happiness is 50% genetic, 10% circumstances, and 40% intentional activity." In other words, 50% is immobile, it is inherited from parents, 10% is life circumstances, it includes job, income, or personal experience, and 40% is changeable which we can choose to do such as behavior. This essay will show how it connects to the life of Susan Spencer-Wendel. Finally, this essay will also explain my opinion about happiness.
The book, "Until I Say Good-Bye" was written by Susan Spencer-Wendel. This book is about the author who was diagnosed with ALS, and tries to make as many memory as she can for her family and to record her year of living with joy. I think Susan would agree with the claim in one important reason that she constantly wrote "to live with joy" . After she was diagnosed with ALS, she considers suicide at a moment. However, she discovers that her death will ruin her family's happiness and also loses the confidence to live with delight. The she quit her job as a journalist and spent time with her family in order to live with joy.
I personally disagree with the claim made in Happy for several reasons. First of all, I think happiness really is not made up of 50% genetic, 10% circumstance, and 40% intentional activity. People surely do not care about where they come from, and their looks. However, people might be jealous of someone who is better than them or has more things than they ever get before, and these will make people unhappy. In addition, people's behavior and activity are more effective than genetics to affect happiness. For example, no matter what a persons skin color or physical needs, this should not effect their happiness because happiness was not limited or depends on people's looks or with the disable body. However, if a person was forced to do something they don't love no matter whether they are poor or wealthy family, they would probably lose their happiness. If a man is free to do something they love, it will build up their happiness with behavior and activity more and more.
When we were children, happiness was a simple thing; when we were old, a simple thing was happy. In our future, a lot of people set their goals to reach their happiness or to be happy. Same as I do, in my future I want to be a doctor. The most important reason is to help people who are dying, then to save their life, and make them and their family happy; it will also make me happy. Death will bring a tragedy in a family and takes away their smile one their face.
